The BETR Initiative

Building Enhanced Treatment Responses

The BETR Initiative builds treatment capacity among primary care providers.
Our goal is to improve the health outcomes for people living with HIV and Hepatitis C in the district of Thunder Bay.

About the BETR Initiative

Drug use should not be a barrier to successful HIV and Hepatitis C treatment. Individuals who use drugs are often an underserved population when it comes to care and treatment because systems are not designed to meet their particular needs and come with a stigma.

HIV and Hepatitis C in the Thunder Bay District

HIV and Hepatitis C rates in the Thunder Bay District are higher than the provincial average. The local epidemiology is different than the provincial epidemiology. This calls for a unique local response.
